Past GT essay - Travelling abroad is regarded as a valuable and good activity for young people, but some people think it takes too much time and money. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Youth travel is one of the fastest growing and most dynamic markets of the global tourism sector. Some individuals believe that travelling abroad is beneficial for the youth where as others opine that is wastage of time and money. This essay shall discuss both views before forming an opinion.

Some people consider it a waste of time and money because of several reasons. They believe that in today’s era of cut-throat competition, young people should concentrate on their studies and careers. They do not earn yet and if they travel at a young age they are wasting their time as well as their parent’s hard-earned money. What is more, they are not mature enough and may face problems while travelling such as food and language problems. Finally, they believe that today, the satellite TV and the internet has brought the whole world into their bedroom, so they should be doing other useful work instead of travelling.

On the other hand, travelling in young age has enormous benefits. It provides tremendous opportunities for fun, adventure and discovery. When young people visit places in other countries, they gain a better understanding of the people living there. They learn their cultures, history and background. They discover the similarities and differences. It is interesting to learn from people with diverse backgrounds.

Furthermore, research suggests that traveling overseas at a young age leads to successful careers. It helps them decide what they want in life. Traveling when young can be a great platform to diversify one’s experience early in life and to discover one’s purpose in life.  Each country, each city, even each restaurant a person visits is an opportunity to experiment something different.  It is better to realize one’s true desires and potential early in life than when it is too late.

To conclude, it can be said that although travelling at a young age involves time and money it is worthwhile and has a lot of benefits for the youth. So if the young people get the chance to broaden their horizons and go and experience new places it may make a world of difference to them.
