IELTS essay question of 7th Jan 2012, Australia

Some developing countries invite large foreign companies to open offices and factories in order to help their economy. However, others feel that foreign companies should be shut out and instead the government should help the local companies to contribute to the economic growth. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is a highly debatable issue whether multinational companies (MNCs) should be encouraged by the governments of developing countries or whether the local companies should be promoted. I firmly believe that MNCs are good for the economic growth. A number of arguments surround my opinion.

IELTS essay question of 14th Jan 2012, Australia

People nowadays put more emphasis on social skills. Some people believe that social skills are important in addition to good qualifications for job success. To what extent, do you agree or disagree?

I definitely agree that today social skills are considered as important as good qualifications while recruiting new employees. Hiring the right candidate based on technical knowledge without looking at social skills is like designing a race car with a powerful engine but substandard steering and braking systems. The car may go fast, but in the wrong direction and may even hurt a lot of innocent bystanders along the way.

Some people say that in our modern age it is unnecessary to teach children about the skills of handwriting. To what extent do you agree or disagree? (21st Jan 2012, Australia GT essay)

A common opinion is that with the increasing role computers play in our society; handwriting is no longer an important skill to learn at an early age.  Unfortunately this opinion is misguided. I firmly believe that handwriting is very important even in today’s era of technology. A number of arguments surround my opinion.

Radio is more enjoyable and practical than television. Discuss. ( past GT essay)

In the past, radio was considered the most convenient and important source of information. Even today, despite the emergence of other media such as the TV and the internet, the radio has held its place as an important mass medium. In many ways it definitely is more enjoyable and practical than a television. A number of arguments surround my opinion.

Some people think that radio has become out-of-date, and there is no need to listen to the radio for entertainment and news. Do you agree or disagree? Past GT essay

In the past, radio was considered the most convenient and important source of information. However, with the emergence of other media such as the TV and the internet, some individuals opine that radio as a medium will lose its value in the future. In my opinion, such pessimism does not hold any water.

Radio will no longer be able to hold its presence as television and Internet media will replace it very soon. Do you agree or disagree? (21st Jan 2012 essay India)

In the past, radio was considered the most convenient and important source of information. Even today, despite the emergence of other media such as the TV and the internet, the radio has held its place as an important mass medium. I strongly disagree that the radio will lose its importance in the future. In fact its popularity will grow even further. A number of arguments surround my opinion.

Sample answer for IELTS - AC -essay of 21st Jan 2012, India Artists vs Scientists

Some people still value artists (musicians, painters, writers) even in today’s world of science and despite improvements in science and technology. Why is this so? Should arts be given the same importance as science and technology? ( 21st Jan SC essay as seen in India – very similar to essay number 87 in my essay book  - link - http://kiransielts.blogspot.com/2010/09/today-advanced-science-and-technology.html )

It is irrefutable that today we belong to an era of science and technology. Yet, artists such as musicians, painters and writers are highly appreciated. In the following paragraphs, I shall outline some reasons for this. I firmly believe that the role of art as well as science is different yet inextricably linked and both are valuable, priceless and irreplaceable for every society.

It is better for children if the whole families (e.g. aunts, uncles and grandparents) are involved in the children's upbringing, rather than their fathers and mothers only. Do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

I have written this essay in two versions - One for agree and one for disagree. The first essay is in favour of joint families and the second in favour of nuclear families.

(Agree)

The rising trend of nuclear families and its effect on today’s children has led to the question whether children should be raised in joint families in which aunts, uncles and grandparents contribute in bringing up children. Although a joint family is not without its drawbacks, I firmly believe that a joint family is better in raising children. A number of arguments surround my opinion.
