The advantages brought by the spread of English as a “global language” will outweigh the disadvantages. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this view?

Introduction: Partially agree – English has become the lingua franca in many parts of the world. It has words from many languages.

Paragraph 1&2: Advantages

-          It is the language of global business – also jobs

-          It is the language of technology

-          Travel easier

-          No need of expensive translations

-          It is a unifying factor – for e.g. in the Indian pluralistic society there are more than 700 odd languages and dialects

-          Easy to learn as it has adopted words from many languages

Paragraph 3: Disadvantages:

-          Local languages die out

-          Local culture dies out because language and culture are inter related

-          May divide into dialects

Conclusion: advantages outweigh the disadvantages
